Sailing with the wind, standing at the forefront: ZDATA launches the industry's largest self-built 220kV substation in operation.
Recently, the 220kV ZDATA Station at the ZDATA Green Big Data Industrial Base has successfully received power. With this, the self-built 220kV substation project by ZDATA has officially entered the operational phase. This will further meet the electricity demand for overall project construction and operation, providing abundant electric power to accelerate the development of the digital economy in Datong, Shanxi.
On December 30, Meng Weijun, Deputy Mayor of Datong City People's Government, announced the official operation of the 220kV ZDATA Station and the 5th Data Center. The event was witnessed by leaders including Wang Chonghu, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Yanggao County, Xie Yun, County Mayor of Yanggao County, Zhou Kang, Co-founder and Chairman of ZDATA, and Dong Yan, Co-founder and COO of ZDATA, as well as representatives from customers, investors, and construction parties.
Secretary Wang Chonghu pointed out that the official operation of the 220kV substation built by ZDATA not only improves the regional power supply capacity, reliability, and green new energy consumption capacity but also enhances the overall competitiveness of the digital industry in Yanggao County. This initiative allows Yanggao to join the "fast lane" of digital economic development in Shanxi Province.
Mr. Zhou Kang stated that ZDATA hopes to use the self-built 220kV substation as a lever to become a "pacesetter" in promoting the intensive, large-scale, and green development of data centers. The company aims to fully leverage the dual leadership effects in the fields of data centers and energy, building a highland for regional digital industry development and a digital industry array.
The 220kV ZDATA Station, located in the ZDATA Green Big Data Industrial Park in Yanggao County, Datong City, is the largest single 220kV substation in China in terms of IDC (Internet Data Center) capacity. It is equipped with four 150MW main transformers, totaling 600MVA in capacity. After being put into operation, it will enhance the stability and reliability of the power supply for data centers, effectively increase the capacity for new energy power access, and provide strong energy support for regional digital empowerment.
Since the construction of the 220kV substation project, ZDATA has overcome external obstacles such as multiple rounds of epidemic-related lockdowns, delayed logistics, and factory shutdowns, with the strong support of the municipal and county governments and Datong City Power Supply Company. The company has successfully completed the construction of the substation's civil and electrical installations, as well as the construction of nearly 10km of transmission and transformation lines. They have also conducted equipment debugging, testing, acceptance, and actively coordinated various issues during the power transmission process, ensuring the smooth delivery of the project.
The ZDATA Green Big Data Industrial Base is a strategic node for ZDATA in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei-Inner Mongolia-Shanxi region. It is the largest individually planned data center base in China, covering an area of about 1,000 acres, with a total construction area of over 500,000 square meters, and an estimated total installed capacity of over 100,000 cabinets. As a key provincial project in 2022, the ZDATA Green Big Data Industrial Base aims to pioneer a new model and path of integrated development of "new energy + big data." The 220kV ZDATA Station reserves an access point for new energy and frequency modulation and storage facilities, providing solid energy security for exploring the development path of "integrated source-grid-load-storage" and "multi-energy complementarity."
The successful power transmission and operation of the 220kV ZDATA Station signify that ZDATA can provide more sufficient load space. This enables the ZDATA Green Big Data Industrial Base, as a crucial point in the national data connectivity strategy, to become an important driving force for Shanxi to build a higher-speed, higher-quality computing resource system. It will meet the increasing industrial demand of the digital economy in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, contributing "electric power" to promote the green and high-quality development of the digital economy.
